- Back to: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Simon Wai prototype)/Comparisons.
Chemical Plant Zone is the second stage of the Simon Wai prototype, and it's looking more healthy than it did in the Nick Arcade build. It's still missing enemies and a boss, but is perfectly playable.
General comparisons
As with Neo Green Hill Zone, the Emerald Hill theme plays if you get out of the water during a countdown.
Act 1
The loops have slanted corners.
Tails' tails can become detatched when entering tubes.
These bubbles use a different sound effect - the same used for the fireballs in Sonic the Hedgehog's Marble Zone.
Chemical Plant Zone is featured in the rolling demo, but despite changes to the layout, the scripts controlling Sonic and Tails' movements haven't been updated since the Nick Arcade build. Now the player gets to watch Sonic very slowly make his way to these steps, before spending several seconds making sure the walls work.

Act 2
These platforms are smaller in the Simon Wai build. Parts of the background are using different colours too, creating undesirable effects when viewed underwater.
Many safety features were added in the final game to stop Sonic and Tails falling to their deaths. They've yet to be implemented here.
No boss, just a signpost.
