Sonic Rush Adventure (ソニック ラッシュ アドベンチャー) is a sequel to Sonic Rush, which is made for the Nintendo DS. The game features two playable characters: Sonic the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat. Along with the return of Miles "Tails" Prower as Sonic's sidekick, the game introduces a new character, Marine the Raccoon, who is not playable.

Story

Sonic and Tails are flying in their plane, the Tornado, following a powerful energy signal (most likely the Jeweled Scepter, a powerful item that is introduced in this game), and get caught in a storm. They wash up on Southern Island (not to be confused with South Island), where they encounter a little girl called Marine the Raccoon. What starts off as Sonic and Tails trying to find their way off the island turns into a mission to defeat a new villain called Captain Whiskers, who possesses the Jeweled Scepter. The two soon realize that they are in Blaze's dimension when they bump into each other later in the game. They receive help from Marine's koala friends and set off on an adventure, with Marine issuing herself the title of captain.

Towards the end, Sonic, Blaze, and Tails tell Marine to stay behind while they pursue Whisker at his hideout, and though Marine tries to pass this off, Blaze even goes so far as to call Marine a nuisance. Heartbroken, Marine sets off on her own without the others knowing, refusing to give up. Soon, she gets captured, but Marine uses her predicament as an advantage to get back the Jeweled Scepter. Marine finally earns the respect of her friends, but only after being lectured.

After Whisker and Johnny were seemingly defeated, the Jeweled Scepter gets stolen by Sonic's archenemy, Dr. Eggman, and Blaze's archenemy, Dr. Eggman Nega. With no other way to defeat them, Sonic and Blaze use their respective emeralds to transform and destroy their mech. Although the two could not defeat the mech, Marine merely throws a rock at its back, leaving it open for Sonic's attack.

Finally, Sonic and Tails go back to their own dimension, and Marine stays with them the most she can on her new waterbike, the S.S. Super Marine. She vows that she will become a real captain one day and will see Sonic and Tails again, even if it means going to their dimension.

Gameplay

Gameplay is largely the same as the previous Sonic Rush, retaining the trick and boost elements. Unlike in Sonic Rush, Sonic and Blaze share the same story, and you don't choose the character you play as when you start playing. Instead, you choose before you play a stage. Also, levels are separated into islands, and you set sail to play there in vehicles that Tails creates out of materials you find in zones. There are four vehicles in all, each with their own unique play styles. Aside from the usual normal zones, there are also sixteen one-act Hidden Islands that you can seek out on maps, which can often be completed in under a minute.

The game sports a "pirate" theme; in lieu of that, a new pair of villains have arrived under the names of Captain Whisker and his right hand man, Johnny. "Whisker" is another name for a mustache, hence Captain Whisker and possibly Johnny are creations of Dr. Eggman and Eggman Nega. Johnny serves as Sonic's rival in the game's equivalent of Special Stages; Sonic competes with him on the Wave Cyclone for Chaos Emeralds. Unlike in the previous game, in which Blaze automatically collected Sol Emeralds by progressing through the game, Sol Emeralds are obtained by completing missions, which you can access by talking to Marine at certain points of the game.
