#SWS2B is the un-official IRC channel for Simon Wai's Sonic 2 Beta website. Its current location is on the Tetraq IRC server.

SWS2B's Tech Members used to be generally automatically given op status within the channel (despite assertions by Simon and Voice that SWS2B and #sws2b are entirely separate and autonomous), a power structure which often resulted in more ops than 'ordinary' members. It also rendered op powers essentially meaningless, since a majority of the regular users have them. Due to various reasons, this structure was abandoned in 2006, and the channel currently has five or six ops.

  1. sws2b also has a more 'informal' nature than the SWS2B forums, leading to things that would not be tolerated on the forums being accepted in IRC chat: frequent meme usage, 1337 h@xxor ch4t!, and so on. Most prominently, those banned on the forum (for example Wetflame) can join the chat freely.

The IRC channel can be accessed from tetraq.2y.net. For those without an installed IRC client, #sws2b will soon be accessable through a CGI:IRC client.

Server History

The channel was first located on the AfterNET IRC Network and registerred under Voice's name. In April 2006, the channel moved to CulTNET, the server for Sonic CulT. Sazpaimon set up a special sub-server for SWS2B that lacked fsay capabilities.

And finally, on June 12, 2006, the channel moved to its current home on the Tetraq IRC server
