Sonic Mania Plus is an upgraded re-release of Sonic Mania that was released in July 17th, 2018. This re-release has new characters Mighty and Ray as well as a new Encore Mode and 4 player competition mode. In addition to being released as an update to digital copies of the original game, this definitive version will receive a physical release which includes a holographic slip cover, a reversible Sega Mega Drive-themed sleeve, and a 32-page art book. Players from Japan also get a soundtrack CD with two discs. The CDS include all Sonic Mania tracks (excluding compositions by Masato Nakamura), all Hyper Potions tracks (including Time Trials Plus) and all Mania Plus songs. If you don't have enough money to get the physical version of Encore DLC, then Sega released v1.04 which has a lot of similar things to Mania Plus, but does not have Mighty and Ray, Encore Mode, 4 player and other little stuff.

Changes from Sonic Mania

The Following Changes Are:

  • Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel will return as playable characters for the first time in over 20 years.
  • The Competition Mode will be expanded to allow up to 4 players.
  • An all-new "Encore Mode" will be added to the game, which will remix the zones with visual changes.
  • A save and payback function of speedrun attempts.[9]
  • Optimized difficulty for boss fights and an altered boss fight.[9]
  • Hyperkinetic is part of the development of this game. One of the people who are part of Hyperkinetic, Hunter Bridges, worked on the games music while Tee Lopes worked on the soundtrack for Sonic Mania Adventures.

Encore Mode Plot

In the beginning of Encore Mode, Sonic returns to Angel Island Zone after Sonic Forces(According to the official help instruction manual). However, as soon as he reached to ground, the Phantom Ruby came out of no where and starts going to the right. Sonic chases the Phantom Ruby at a nostalgic Angel Island found in Sonic 3 that you get to play. When reaches the end point of the zone, he sees an capsule containing he's friends Mighty and Ray that trying to break out. Sonic frees them both. Sonic then chooses on person and which ever person he choosed, the other person was Heavy Magician. Heavy Magician gets the Phantom Ruby and Mighty(Or Ray) help Sonic out by using there brand new abilities to go to the shut down Hard Boiled Heavies. Heavy Magician then gives the Phantom Ruby to Heavy King and the Heavies were back to life making a negative that makes the Sonic and Ray(Or Mighty)disappear. This two heroes go back to Green Hill Zone which has a sunset style to it! Now Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Mighty and Ray have to stop the returning Hard Boiled Heavies and Dr. Robotnik from ruling the world once and for all!

Encore Mode

Encore Mode is a new mode that takes all zones from Mania Mode(Except the exclusive Super Sonic level)and remixed to different color palettes. Don't think this a copy and paste mode though, new areas and differences between Mania and Encore makes Encore Mode look like an expanded version of Mania Mode. New pathways are also here that uses all of the five characters abilities(Including the new characters Mighty and Ray). Bosses are now either easier or harder. Some Special Stage Rings got changed to new locations. This special stage are the same kinds as Mania Mode's, but the backgrounds go backward form special stages(For instance the background for the first one is special stage 7 and the next one is special stage six). They also increased the difficulty as the first one is not easy and they get even more harder from there. Going to a check point with 50 rings brings to a brand new pinball bonus stage with three floors. Each time you make it to a floor, a little drain game pops up and you can get items, rings and even characters. There is also an Eggman bomb which does nothing. Going back to the first floor and falling to the pit will end the bonus stage. The biggest change to Encore Mode is the party and lives system. In the beginning of Encore Mode in Angel Island Zone, you get to pick either Mighty or Ray to start your adventure with a buddy. This is because of the new party and lives mechanic. Your buddy follows you and you get to switch characters by using the switch button which the button is different for every system. To get the rest of the playable characters, you have to find an item box with its characters face on it. If you hit, one character that was on the box right the second you hit will join your party. There also these teleport switches from the multiplayer mode which when hit, the person in line will join the gameplay and your lead character will go back in line. There are also question mark switches which when hit, both characters that are you are playing as will get replaced by the twi random people in line. There no lives in Encore Mode, but the party members act out as lives. If you die as your main character, you'll lose that character and the next person goes in to take it's place. If all of your party members(Including you)are gone it's game over.
