Tails' sprites for swinging in Mushroom Hill Zone originally existed in the Sonic 3C 0408 prototype and were later overwritten with the Super Tails transformation sprites.[1]

Knuckles' laughing sprites, which are used as a victory animation in this game, are different from how they looked in Sonic 3, styled much more like Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble.[1]

The second frame of Knuckles' skidding/stopping sprites in this game is noticeably different, looking similar to Knuckles' earlier sprites from the 1993-11-03 prototype of Sonic 3.[1]
