Sonic Forces: Speed Battle is a game developed by Sega Europe studio Hardlight that was released for iOS and Android mobile devices to promote the at-the-time upcoming Sonic Forces. It was initially released by Sega in the form of a soft-launch on the App Store in the Philippines, and was slowly released to other countries and eventually Google Play.

Gameplay

Gameplay is very similar to that of Sonic Dash and Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom, but instead of a simple endless runner, it is a common runner where the player competes with other players online in real-time, akin to Sonic Rivals. The player can execute jumps and rolls to deflect obstacles and destroy enemies as they automatically run through the stage, and can also interact with other paths acquired through rails. The player can also obtain temporary power-ups during the course to use for their own benefit or against their opponents, similar to Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, as well as collecting rings to use as currency to buy power-ups or bonuses. At the end of each course, the player can spot a piece of gemstone at the finish line that is known as a Phantom Ruby Prototype.

The stages are based on known locations from Sonic Forces, such as Park Avenue and the version of Green Hill with sandy pyramid valleys as well as Sky Sanctuary.

Characters

There are 16 playable characters in the game. Characters are unlocked over time by reaching certain positions when completing races, and it is possible to make upgrades to the characters to improve their attributes and weapons.
