Cutscene bugs

Sonic reunites with Tails in Red Mountain

SonicAdventure RedMountainSceneFixed.png
Intended

In Tails' story, when he reunites with Sonic, Sonic jumps onto the plane; but in Sonic's story, he just warps onto it.

This is because Sonic never leaves his Victory Pose, and even if he does he'll fail the jump unless an object is removed as Sonic's path is using an earlier version of the stage.

Not fixed in any version.

Egg Viper introduction

Intended

When Sonic meets Eggman in the Egg Viper introduction, he's supposed to do a pose, but it's called too early, causing it to overwrite the rolling animation, which then gets overwritten by the "action" animation.

Not fixed in any version.

Past camera Bugs

Intended

When characters are in the past in cutscenes, they're meant to have a special camera, but due to a bug related to transitions the camera only shows behind the player. But through hacking it's possible to see the intended cameras. The bug affects the following scenes:

  • EV008E (Knuckles 2A)
  • EV008E (Knuckles 2B)
  • EV0096 (Knuckles 3A)
  • EV0096 (Knuckles 3B)
  • EV00DB (Big A)
  • EV00DB (Big B)
  • EV00F6 (Super Sonic A)
  • EV00F6 (Super Sonic B)

Fixed in Sonic Adventure DX PC (2004).

Level-specific bugs

Hedgehog Hammer crash

When selecting Hedgehog Hammer (ID 0) as someone other than Amy Rose, the game will crash as Sonic's object layout is incompatible and characters without a specific object layout use Sonic's. As Sonic's object layout is using the Test Level's, it's incompatible in the final game, thus causing a crash. The stage doesn't crash for Amy as her object layout is compatible.

Fixed in Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut (Removed incompatible objects).

Emerald Coast loop-de-loop

After the player finishes the cave part of Emerald Coast and heads to the loop-de-loop, if they stay on the right side of the screen they will fall through the floor.

Not fixed in any version.

Adventure Field-specific bugs

Purple Hint Boxes

In the Egg Carrier's main hall, the hint boxes are purple. To understand why, we must learn about the lighting engine. Sonic Adventure has a palette based lighting engine called Lantern. It works by using Diffuse and Specular palettes. To learn more about LANTERN, go here.

Fixed in Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut.

Standing on the burger man statue

In the original Japanese version, it was possible to stand on the burger man statue. That's really it.

Fixed in Sonic Adventure (1999).

Chao Garden-specific bugs

Evening and Night Lighting

Even though the Mystic Ruins Chao Garden can take place at evening and night, the lighting doesn't change, even though there are files for it.

Fixed in Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut.

Chao don't spawn

Sometimes, Chao won't spawn in the Egg Carrier Chao Garden.

Fixed in Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut.

Boss-specific bugs

"The Man 3" poster

The billboard in the Egg Walker boss battle is using the wrong poster as the mapping is using an older version.

Fixed in Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut.
