Sonic Advance for Android is a port of Sonic Advance to the Android platform. It is a Japanese-only title available as an Android application from the Android Marketplace. Unlike previous releases of Sonic Advance, this version is available as a free download.

The game itself is nearly identical to the Game Boy Advance version. The game image is upscaled 3x from the base image size, which was increased to 264x158 (up from 240x160 from the GBA). Game performance is hit-or-miss depending on the device, with some users reporting 100% speed while others report that it runs ridiculously slowly.

Notable Differences

While this port remains faithful to the original Sonic Advance on the GBA, it does contain some differences:

  • The invincibility theme, originally a remix of the classic featured in Sonic 1 and Sonic 2, is replaced with a remix of the Sonic Advance title theme.
  • The Sonic 1 and 2 throwback bosses, featured in the X-Zone stage, no longer use the remixes of their original themes. Instead, the two feature the final boss themes from Sonic 4.
  • There is currently no way to access the Sonic and Tails mode within this port.
  • The Android port does not feature the Tiny Chao Garden and contains no files pertaining to it having ever existed.
