Sonic 2 Retro Remix is a large-scale hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by DNXDelta and Thorn. The game is based around a mission system akin to that of Super Mario 64, with each level containing time attack, score attack, and scavenger hunting missions that award Chaos Emeralds, which in turn allow the player to progress through barricades in the overworld. The hack has been praised for its mission system, layouts, art and new moves, but criticized for its difficulty.
Contents
Controls
While the button no longer functions as a jump button, because it has been given new functions, all other controls from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 are available, as well as:
- Curl into a Spin Attack: Press in midair to enter a Spin Attack.
- Jump Dash: Press or in midair while in a Spin Attack to dash forward.
- Wall Kick: In midair, press or in the direction of a wall while pressing or holding to stick to the wall for a second, then jump to kick off of it. You can chain wall kicks together provided that you do not stick to a wall too long and fall off.
- Mid-air Action: After being catapulted by a spring, seesaw, or similar device, press plus a direction to greatly adjust your trajectory.
- Exit level: Pause the game and press to exit an act and return to the overworld.
