Sonic 1 Remastered is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit) for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis by Pu7o. Unlike most hacks, Remastered isn't a level art/palette hack as much as an "additional features" hack done in ASM. One of the major additions to the game is added with the choice of using Sonic or Tails throughout the game (selecting a character is done at the title screen.) Sonic has spindash, peelout and high speed dash (an attack that sends you rolling forward at a specific speed when you press A or B) while Tails spindashes and flies.

Ports of music from the other 16-bit Sonic games and original compositions are featured with each level.

Features

  • Speed limit removed
  • New zone title/results font based on credits font
  • Spike Bug fixed
  • Abilities gained as emeralds are collected
  • Timer ends after defeating a boss instead of after opening egg capsule
  • Unique speed monitors for Sonic and Tails
  • Super Sonic added
  • The ability to carry left over rings into the next act
