Template:CharacterSheet Silver the Hedgehog is a silver-colored hedgehog character (hence the name) introduced to the Sonic series in the 15th anniversary version of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Abilities and Gameplay

Silver's primary ability is psychokinesis (often abbreviated PK), which is the ability to move things with his mind. He is able to use this ability in a number of offensive and defensive ways. The most common use of the ability is taking hold of and moving objects such as boxes, enemies, and even other characters. Silver can either set such objects down, throw them one by one, or throw them all at once. The number of objects Silver can hold at once is generally limited by the amount of energy in the PK meter displayed onscreen. Other uses of Silver's PK include paralyzing enemies and rivals (enabling him to hold and throw them), firing stun waves, temporarily confusing opponents by scrambling their controls, and even manipulating surrounding environments.

Silver isn't as fast a runner as Sonic or Shadow. However, he can also fly, despite having no wings or engine. It is assumed he uses his psychokinetic powers to lift himself. He is seen hovering in various cutscenes and also in the majority of his victory poses. Players of the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog could use Silver's flight to warp quickly over short distances, and glide slowly over longer ones. Silver can also use the standard Homing Attack, Spin Attack, Spin Dash, and super transformation.

In Universe

In the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog, Silver comes from 200 years in the future. His world lies in ruins due to the immortal fire monster Iblis. Frustrated at being unable to destroy Iblis, Silver and his partner Blaze the Cat are send back to the present day by Mephiles the Dark. Mephiles tells them that in order to save their world, they must kill the "Iblis Trigger", which would unleash Iblis upon the world. The "trigger" was revealed to be Sonic the Hedgehog.

After a first failed attempt at his mission, Silver questions the morality of killing someone to save the world. Blaze reminds him that doing nothing will change nothing, and Silver renews his goal. Silver was thwarted a second time by Shadow the Hedgehog, whom he mistook for Mephiles. Motivated by the thought of failing his mission, Silver activates Chaos Control at the exact same time Shadow does. This creates a time portal to 10 years prior to the present day, which the two use to learn the true origin of Iblis and Mephiles.

After witnessing the original sealing of Iblis, Silver returns to the present to help Sonic save Princess Elise. Sonic gives Silver a second Chaos Emerald which he and Blaze use to return to their own time. Silver is unable to seal Iblis in his own body, and thus Blaze seals it within herself and transports herself to another dimension. Iblis is eliminated from the future and the world is saved, or so everyone thinks.

Mephiles kills Sonic in the present, thus unleashing Iblis via Elise's tears. Mephiles merges with Iblis to become Solaris and begins to consume time itself. The remaining heroes search through time to locate the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic is revived as Super Sonic and transforms Silver and Shadow into their Super States. The three hedgehogs travel through time and simultaneously defeat the time transcending Solaris in the past, present, and future. Solaris is then erased from time which causes the events of the game to have never occurred.

Having technically been erased from the plotline, Silver is reintroduced to the series in Sonic Rivals. Silver has again traveled back in time, this time to stop Eggman Nega from altering history. After a series of competitions with Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles, and Metal Sonic, Silver confronts Eggman Nega. Nega's machine backfires and he is turned into a card. Silver is last seen saying that he will find and restore the other items Nega has turned into a card and then return to the future. Whether Silver completes this mission is never revealed.

Eggman Nega managed to escape from his card prison into the present time, where he was able to unleash an interdimensional beast called the Ifrit upon the world. This unleashing caused a similar effect to Iblis's release, and thus Silver returned to a wrecked future. To set things right, he traveled to the present once again to stop Nega from releasing the Ifrit. He teamed up with Espio the Chameleon to take back all the Chao Nega had captured. If the Ifrit were to eat the Chao alive, it would become invincible.

Along the way Silver encountered many friends and foes including Team Sonic, Shadow, Rouge, and Metal Sonic. All eight of them ended up in the Ifrit's home dimension. While half of the group were put under mind control, the other half, including Silver, successfully defeated the Ifrit, and escaped the alternate dimension. Silver decided to leave Eggman Nega trapped under rubble in the new dimension, and returned to what he hopes is a happy future. Only time will tell if it is though.
