Shellcracker

Shellcracker, called Punch Crab (カニパンチ) in the Japanese manual, is a badnik from the 16-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 found in Metropolis Zone. It is a crab with a giant claw. When you approach from the side it will suddenly extend its claw and try to punch you. They can often be found in corridors with low ceilings, making them a real pain in the backside to get past. Hit the vulnerable side, which is the side that doesn't have the claw facing you.
Shellcracker's name is misspelt "Shellcraker" in one of Sonic Jam's Sonic World galleries.
The enemy reappeared in Sonic Pocket Adventure's Gigantic Angel Zone.
