Researcher is a new (created in April of 2012) user rank/group awarded to certain members of Sonic Retro’s forum, based upon their high level of activity in researching topics related to Sonic the Hedgehog or to Sega in a more general sense, the latter befitting Sonic Retro’s sister site Sega Retro.
Most users currently within the Researcher group were ranked as Oldbies before their admission to the new group. The latter status still applies in theory, as it is based solely on the time at which the user joined the Sonic scene; and it may still apply in practise, too, if Researchers who were previously Oldbies are granted per-user access to the Oldbie Lounge and the other privileges granted to Oldbies.
