According to former Sega president Al Nilsen in the May 1993 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly there were 2 Sonic arcade games that were developed before the release of SegaSonic the Hedgehog. The reason behind the games went unreleased was due to them lacking the "special-ness" that Sega expected of Sonic games at the time.
