Pata-Bata (パタバタ) is a recurring Badnik introduced in Sonic the Hedgehog CD. It is also known as the Hoverby Mk II in the US Chaotix manual Media:Chaotix 32X US manual.pdf[1] and Hoverby in Issue 5 of Sonic IDW.

Game appearances

Sonic the Hedgehog CD

In Sonic CD the robots fly around in a zig-zag pattern, so be careful not to hit them on the way up from a spring, when Sonic is vulnerable. When broken down due to age, they fly slower and have a noticeable hole in their wings.

Chaotix

In Chaotix, Pata-Batas have their wings replaced with a pair of fans for flight and simply hover around in Speed Slider. As before, they lack any actual weapons and so are mostly harmless; just take them out with a Spin Jump. Like all of Eggman's Badniks in Chaotix, Pata-Bata is powered by a depleted Ring.

Sonic Runners Adventure

Pata-Batas also make another appearance in Sonic Runners Adventure where they return to their design from Sonic CD, right down to the holes in their wings. They are found in Green Hill.

Appearances in other media

Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW comics)

Pata-Batas appear in Issue 5 of IDW Sonic, appearing alongside Antons fighting the Chaotix and Sonic. They also attack Windmill Village, attempting to rescue the amnesiac Dr. Eggman, but are destroyed by Charmy, along with the Egg Flapper. They are now named Hoverbys, most likely being their official English name.

Manual description

The Robot Butterfly flutters up and down through the air spying on enemies.
