Infinite is the secondary antagonist of Sonic Forces. Formerly known as the "Ultimate Mercenary," Infinite was the commander of a mercenary squadron named Jackal Squad, which were later defeated by Shadow the Hedgehog. After joining Dr. Eggman and losing his squadron, he attempts to take revenge, but is humiliated by Shadow and after the events of that night in Mystic Jungle, he assumes the identity of Infinite and takes in his hands the power of Phantom Ruby, believing that he himself of the past was weak. He is a jackal with predominantly black hairs and some marks on his white body, including his face, his hair and the tip of his tail; he also has a scar mark on his left eye and has heterochromia, so his left eye is blue and his right eye is yellow.
History
During the prequel comic events, Rise of Infinite, after Eggman took the Phantom Ruby and experiment with the powerful gem, a squad of mercenaries named Jackal Squad attacked the scientist base at Arsenal Pyramid, led by what they considered to be the "Ultimate Mercenary." The squadron commander attacks Dr. Eggman, but attacks the Phantom Ruby, causing the illusion of a world destroyed and ruined by war, after which Eggman proposes a deal for the Jackal Squad to ally with the Eggman Empire and thus both achieve their objectives.
A time later, during the events of Episode Shadow in Mystic Jungle, Shadow the Hedgehog invades one of Eggman's secret labs and the scientist triggers the Jackal Squad to exterminate him, failing in the process as the black hedgehog easily defeats them. The squad leader pursues Shadow and then swears revenge for his team, but is humiliated by the hedgehog and exclaims that he is not weak. After this, the jaqual takes in his hands a mask that serves to hide his own failure and becomes Infinite, becoming an Eggman experiment for his plan to dominate the world and defeat Sonic.
A few months later, Sonic is again on a mission to defeat Eggman, however, Infinite intervenes this by using replicas of past villains who defeat the blue hedgehog without much effort. With Sonic finally defeated and trapped in a space prison, Eggman and Infinite conquer 99% of the world, destroying cities and terrorizing citizens using machines, robots and the power of Phantom Ruby; on one of these occasions, Infinite encounters a young citizen who unsuccessfully tries to attack him.
