Green Hill is the first stage in the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations and a re-imagination of the original Green Hill Zone seen in Sonic the Hedgehog (with some elements taken from Emerald Hill Zone, like the Buzzers replacing the original Buzz Bombers). It is the only stage in both the console and handheld versions of the game. The Classic Act is a recreation of the original Act, while the Modern Act adds high speed thrills to the Zone.

Due to the Nintendo 3DS' graphical power in comparison to home consoles, the visual design is simpler in this version of Green Hill compared to the console version.

Overview

Act 1

Classic Sonic's Act, like in the console/PC versions, is the first level played as soon as the player begins a new game. In this version, it is practically a total recreation of the first Act of the original Green Hill Zone, but with a graphical 2.5D update. It features the return of classic Badniks such as Moto Bugs, Crabmeats, Choppers and Newtrons (the last of which doesn't appear in the console/PC versions).

Act 2

Modern Sonic's Act is completely different in layout from the one seen in the console/PC versions and is played entirely in 2.5D. In this version, there are totem poles that are falling apart and will collapse on Sonic, though he can use them to his own benefit by striking them with a Homing Attack. This can not only prevent him from being crushed, but he can also use them to reach higher places which are generally faster than lower routes. At the end of the Act, a colossal totem pole will begin to collapse, and Sonic must boost through to avoid getting crushed and reach the Goal Ring.
