The Gold Beetle (ゴールドビートル) is a mass-produced G.U.N. robot that is part of the Beetle series. It's essentially a Mono Beetle coloured gold.

Game appearances

Sonic Adventure 2

A Gold Beetle in Wild Canyon.

The Gold Beetle appears once in every stage of Sonic Adventure 2. It has no attacks nor do they attempt to attack their foes, and the only thing it does is appearing for 3 seconds (?) when a character is near and then disappears, until either the character dies or one restarts the level. Destroying it earns the player 1,000 points, so it's generally a good idea to seek one out to improve the chances of finishing a level with an A-Rank.

Most of the time their locations in Hard mode are the same as Normal mode (Metal Harbor), but there are cases where they shift positions slightly (Prison Lane) or disappear to a new place altogether (City Escape). Sometimes, it is obligatory for the player to use the Gold Beetle to proceed forward, like in Radical Highway.

Shadow the Hedgehog

Gold Beetles appear again as enemies in Shadow the Hedgehog. In this game, they are more offensive as they can move slightly faster than the Gun Beetles and are twice as resilient, requiring two Homing Attacks to be destroyed instead of one. However, they cannot teleport and their coloration is not as golden as before. They are found in Westopolis, Digital Circuit, Circus Park, Prison Island, The Doom, Death Ruins, The ARK, Air Fleet and Iron Jungle.

Sonic Generations (Nintendo 3DS)

Gold Beetles return in the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations where they can be found in Radical Highway, reverting back to their behavior from Sonic Adventure 2. They appear in places where the player can use the Homing Attack on them to reach higher paths, but if they are given the chance to disappear, the player will lose their chance to reach the path. One of the unlockable missions requires the player to destroy three of them within the time limit.
