Gator is a scrapped Badnik, originally intended to be used in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Gator is unique among scrapped Badniks for the game, as its front half shows up in a mockup image for an unknown desert level. The "Gator" name comes from source code found in the Nick Arcade prototype of the game[1].
Overview
Gator has the appearance of a mechanical alligator with two short arms and treadmills underneath its body for locomotion. The mechanical alligator Badnik rolls around on its treadmills and opens its jaws to attack should Sonic stand in front of it, though any attack can easily defeat it. The Badnik is placeable in Hidden Palace Zone in the "Nick Arcade" prototype, along with other early Badniks, however its sprites are not loaded and remain unused in the ROM. It is known to still exist in the data of the "Simon Wai" prototype.
