Image:Kc SpecialStage 1.jpg|It can be safely assumed that for a long while, the Special Stages were effectively glorified tech demos, with no objects in play and no way to obtain a chaos ring.

Chaotix has gone through several changes over its development process. There are several rejected ideas, level designs, and other things that were left on the cutting room floor. The following details several of these things.

Prototypes

There have been many prototypes of Knuckles' Chaotix found over the years. The first one that was found was also the earliest build ever found. This prototype was called Sonic Crackers. Simultaneously 12 other prototypes were discovered later on and distrubuted on the web. These prototypes were assigned the numbers: 1207, 1227, 1229, 0111, 0119, 0202, 0208, 0209, 0210, 0213, 0214, and 0216. They expanded the knowledge of Chaotix's development process greatly. Wechnia's true identity was discovered as Tails, Espio the Chameleon was shown to be the star at one point, and Chaotix could finally be linked to Sonic Crackers as the text "Sonic Crackers S32X" was found hidden in a proto, and graphics were found proving Sonic and Tails were once included in Chaotix. Also, several of the attractions had different names early on, such as Amusement Park for Speed Slider.
