The boss of Metallic Madness is the seventh and last in Sonic CD. Unlike most of Robotnik's boss machines in this game, the final fight is not particularly tailored to the Act's level design, being a rather standard kill-mech. The Doctor sails around in the air, just out of Sonic's reach, his circular central pod surrounded by four wide blades. Each hit knocks off one; pretty much the only way to get rid of the first is to sacrifice rings and throw Sonic at the machine, hitting the Doctor while in flickering invincibility. With a gap in his defences, Robotnik can then be hit when he occasionally swoops down to the ground. As the number of blades reduces to two and one, the Doctor employs new tactics, including firing the things across the screen, and using them as pogo springs.
Defeating the boss brings Metallic Madness crashing down around Sonic. Amy runs onto the screen before the final cutscene , where the hedgehogs escape from the disappearing Miracle Planet.
