In Universe

E-123 Omega is the last and most powerful of Dr. Eggman's E-100 series robots, who first appeared in Sonic Heroes. Dr. Eggman deactivated him and stuck him in an abandoned base to prevent the release of Shadow the Hedgehog, and to capture him should he escape. Afterwards, Eggman begun work on his next line of robots, the E-2000.

He was accidentally reactivated, however, by Rouge the Bat while she was looking for Eggman's secret treasure. She was also trying to release Shadow from a coma-like sleep. Originally following his core programming, Omega wastes no time in trying to take the Black Blur out with the rest of the base. Rouge breaks up the fighting long enough to hear both their stories.

Omega had become infuriated at Eggman for tossing him in the infernal place. Abandoning his original mission, he set out to get revenge on his creator and prove once and for all that he's the ultimate E-series robot. His status as Team Dark's power member will make sure of that.

Personality

Omega is described as a stereotypical robot with no feelings. However, Omega does have a heart, despite his rough exterior, making him similar to E-102 Gamma. This is explained because in Team Dark's ending, Rouge is upset that she probably didn't find the real Shadow, but Omega assures her that if there's a clone, then there's an original.

Gameplay

Omega's debut was as a power type in Sonic Heroes. As such, his gameplay there is similar to other power types in that he has melee attacks as well as the ability to break obstacles and use the Triangle Dive. Omega's attacks focus on the large amount of concealed weapons in his forearms.

While in the air, Omega can retract his arms, and launch his Spin Attacking teammates as fireballs. On the ground, he can fire either a stream of bullets, a flame thrower, or explosive drills, depending on the level players have obtained with him. All of these are fired in a circular attack. In addition, as part of the Team Blast attack "Chaos Inferno" Omega can fire a large sweeping laser that destroys all enemies in range, and takes 30 HP off any boss.

Omega also appears as a partner character in Shadow the Hedgehog, in the Lava Shelter and Iron Jungle levels. In the PlayStation 2 and GameCube versions, he can be controlled with the second controller during these levels. Like all partner characters, he is limited to melee attacks and the Homing Attack.

Omega's first and so far only solo gamemplay is in the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog, as one of Shadow's "Amigo" partners. His gameplay is most similar to that of E-102 Gamma, as he has lock on attacks, and the ability to hover. He is playable in a considerable amount of stages, and is one of the three characters featured in the downloadable "Team Attack Amigo" missions.
