Deep Nightmares are Dark Gaia minions encountered by Sonic the Werehog as enemies in the night stages of Sonic Unleashed. Amongst the least strange of Dark Gaia's monsters, these blue-black humanoid enemies have thick forearms and spiked backs, which nevertheless lend them a bizarre, otherworldly appearence. Deep Nightmares can appear in puffs of supernatural smoke, and are usually found spearheading a group of their lesser cousins, the standard Nightmares. The two can be distinguished by the Deep Nightmare's darker blue colouring and larger horn, as well as their ability to take more punishment.
Deep Nightmares lack any sort of projectile attack, and instead attack Werehog by means of their stretchy arms.
