The Death Egg is Dr. Eggman's flying ship. It first appeared in Sonic 2. In Sonic 3 & Knuckles, the Death Egg crashed into Floating Island, sending the island down to sea level. The Death Egg can be seen in the background of Lava Reef Zone.
The Death Egg appeared again, and got blown up even easier, in Sonic Battle, as a sort of light hearted Jokish back-reference.
