Chopper, called Batabata (バタバタ) in the Japanese manual, is the gnashing piranha fish that leaps up from under bridges to attack in Green Hill Zone in the 16-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as in Bridge Zone on the 8-bit version. They can be easily destroyed by jumping on them as they come up; one should always be wary of them when one crosses a bridge.

Chopper made a repeat appearance in the bonus Green Hill stage in Sonic Adventure 2. It is very similar to Sonic 2's Masher.

A redesigned Chopper that more closely resembles Sonic 2's Masher in appearance appears in Splash Hill Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
