Back to: Chaotix (prototype 1207)/Comparisons.

In the 1207 prototype of Chaotix, the World Entrance is non-functional. There are clear plans to do something with it, but all the player needs to do is walk to the right to access a simplified level select screen.

In the final game, the level select allows users to access seven variations of the World Entrance - "0" offers a blank slate with no levels unlocked, "1" sets off Metal Sonic when the player reaches the level select screen, and "2" causes the final boss to appear. In the 1207 prototype, 0 does nothing and 1 doesn't enable the Metal Sonic fight. The rest, in both games, lead to strange results.

There are no signposts in the initial area, though at this stage there doesn't need to be, as exiting from the left hand side of the screen is not an option.

Knuckles and co. don't go through doorways yet, they're drawn on top.

Keep going right and you'll be presented with a "NPC Select" screen. Mighty, "Tails" and Espio don't get icons.

"Atraction Select". This screen might have been here a while, as the names are different to the other level select screen. This one won't let you select levels from Speed Slider (Amusement Park) or Amazing Arena (Amazing Zone), although the levels do exist.

In the 1207 prototype, the final boss sees the Chaotix square up against their greatest foe - a yellow level select menu. The selected characters hit a monitor and immediately fall off screen, effectively locking the game.

"Act 3" of the world entrance is much the same, just with some green rings in the top corner. In the final game, any selection past 2 sees the character spin around indefinitely on a flashing background from Techno Tower. The bonus stage theme plays here.
