Knuckles' Chaotix is a "Sonic" game for the ill-fated 32X expansion to the Megadrive/Genesis. It doesn't feature Sonic (except in the best ending, alongside Tails in the Tornado), although evidence suggests that it might have at one point (see Sonic Crackers). It features Vector the Crocodile, Charmy Bee, Espio the Chameleon and Mighty the Armadillo, along with Knuckles the Echidna, Dr. Eggman, and Metal Sonic to provide a link to the Sonic universe. Other characters include Bomb the Mechanic and Heavy the Mechanic, who are booby prize characters in the character select screen. Knuckles Chaotix contains beautiful music and graphics. In the game, two members of the group are attached by a link between two rings that the characters hold. The second player is controllable either by Player Two (in a two-player game), or the game's AI (in a single-player game).

Miscellaneous

  • Interesting secrets in the game include "lost character" Wechnia, and the Amy fragment discovered by ICEknight. Esrael later found a way to make Amy appear in the game's sound test menu.
  • Espio the Chameleon, Vector the Crocodile and Charmy Bee all made an appearance in Sonic Heroes as 'Team Chaotix'. This is Vector and Charmy's only other appearance in a Sonic the Hedgehog game, but Espio's third (Sonic the Fighters).
  • A Tectoy pirate of version of Knuckles Chaotix was found a little later on after the game was released.

Cheat Codes

  • Unlock Amy in the Sound Test menu: In the 'colour test' screen (accessible via the 'options' menu), change the left-hand colour bars to <00><00><00>, <06><0B><11> and <00><08><17>, going from top-to-bottom.
  • Level Select & ingame Debug Mode: Again, enter the 'colour test' screen via the 'options'

menu. This time, enter on the left-hand side of the screen <06><0B><11> and <04><00><04>, again looking from top-to-bottom. During gameplay, press Start to pause the game - you can now move freely around the level.

  • Activate 'Hidden' Character: To activate Wechnia, select the character labelled as '********', then begin a game as usual. Note that this character occupies the second character slot, the first being Mighty the Armadillo - a possible reference to Sonic (presumably the first character) and Tails (the deleted '********' character)?
