Looking around the articles within Category:Items, more than a few dissimilar concepts seem to be rubbing elbows. In terms of the categorisation, there is no distinction made between items that a character equips/obtains, and items which a character merely 'interacts' with. Here's what I'm proposing:

  • Any items which remain fixed in one spot, cannot normally leave their defined area and/or cease to have a function after use (Checkpoints, Springs, Signposts/Goal Rings, Capsules) will be moved to a new category, Level Elements.

'Level Elements' is a heading which hopefully evokes the meaning 'interactive but unobtainable objects and concepts, which occur one or many times within a level'. This allows it to include articles such as Quick-Time Events and Homing Attack Paths. As an example and clarification, Rings do not fall into this category (since they're a defined obtainable item), but arrangements of Rings within a level would be fine (eg. Light Dash trails, the secret area of Final Egg where Rings are laid out in the shape of Sonic's head).
