The spooky/supernatural theme is uncommon. Levels may take place in haunted castles and graveyards. This theme first appeared in Dark Castle in Tails' Skypatrol.
While uncommon, this theme is easily recognized when employed. In levels with this theme, the player may encounter haunted castles, misty graveyards, darkness, pumpkins, bones, and supernatural entities. Skull motifs, flickering flames, and hidden passageways are also common.
The spooky/supernatural theme occurs more often in modern Sonic games.
