Boost Mode refers, in its most general sense, to a high-speed dash state which various characters are able to perform, most notably Sonic the Hedgehog. The mode is generally accompanied by some sort of visual distortion to emphasise the eye-blistering velocities involved, and may also require the depletion of some sort of energy gague on the HUD.

Sonic Advance 2 and Sonic Advance 3

Available to all characters in Sonic Advance 2 and Sonic Advance 3, Boost Mode is not an activated move as such; characters enter into this state simply by running really, really fast, while slowing down or being stopped by an obstacle cancels the effect. Boost Mode doesn't really have any specific effects beyond the fact that the character is, by the move's very nature, going at high speed; there are, however, cosmetic changes like a pursuing afterimage (a'la Hyper Sonic and Hyper Knuckles). In Sonic Advance 3, Sonic must be present on the team to achieve Boost Mode. Also, some of the character's moves change slightly, into high-speed forms which can be used without breaking stride:

Sonic

  • Super Skid: Performed by pressing B in Boost Mode. Allows Sonic to use the Skid Attack and continue running.

Cream

  • Step Attack: Performed by pressing B in Boost Mode. Cream takes a long stride and Cheese circles around her as a shield. This destroys any enemies it comes into contact with.

Tails

  • Super Tail Swipe: Performed by pressing pressing B while in Boost Mode. Allows Tails to use Tail Swipe while keeping speed.

Knuckles

  • Spiral Attack: Performed by pressing pressing B while in Boost Mode. Knuckles spirals forward with his fists while keeping speed. This is similar to the move Knuckles performs in Sonic Adventure 2 when he punches while running.

Amy

  • Head Slide: Performed by pressing pressing B while in Boost Mode. Similar to the move of the same name from the first Sonic Advance, except Amy can keep speed afterwards.
