BBat is a Badnik which could be found in Hidden Palace Zone, in prototype versions of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, until that level was ultimately scrapped. This Badnik's code was deleted in Beta 5, along with Redz and Stegway. It waits for Sonic and Tails to get closer, and then it attacks by simply following an U-shaped pattern, ideally hitting the heroes at the lowest point of the arc.

The Badnik's concept was later reused as Sonic the Hedgehog 3's Batbot. The Badnik itself does get a proper introduction in the 2013 remake of Sonic 2, with its attack pattern being relatively unchanged from its appearance in the prototypes.

Palette error

Intended

BBat looks like it was meant to use Sonic's palette as in-game it looks off. It uses palette 01, which causes its ears and flame jet to be miscoloured. If its palette is set to 00 (Sonic & Tails' palette), it looks a lot better. This issue was never fixed before its removal from the game altogether.
