I have some manual images of those McDonalds games. But the guy that took the pics wasnt doing it for archiving purposes so the pages are curled and stuff. I was thinking I could upload them, and then make a remastered version or whatever. A Text Document or something to accurately recreate the text. So I'd upload the real manual image and a remastered image. The manuals are only 1 page each and i have 5 of them I think. So what do you say?--MathUser 11:38, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Hey SS, should the badniks in the development section also be mentioned? http://info.sonicretro.org/Game_Development:Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2_(16-bit) I mean, have a page also.

Another message, if you look at game compilations, I think all of them recieved a E rating or the equivalent. This can be used to accumlate additional ratings for games that werent rated individually. It may be a small project for you but you could see how many countries a game was rated. If the compilation was rated E, then every single game on it will be that rating cause it cant go any lower. I started but I dont know if it is accurate, I just copy pasted the ratings from the compilation itself.--MUser 20:47, 18 May 2009 (CDT)

Well, I was unaware that a Sonic compilation got anything other than the lowest rating, I don't understand the ratings system of other countries. I was just clueing you into why I added those ratings on certain games. A few 8-bit titles had no ratings previously. I only looked over 2 compilations, SADX and Sonic Gems. Otherwise it might of been possible to give more ratings to other games, possibly.--MUser 06:57, 19 May 2009 (CDT)
DPL
Greetings! I was wondering if there has been any discussion about installing DPL on the Wiki. I can see a huge use for it. If it were installed, with permission, I would love to put together a better organizational method for hacking utilities. It could eventually be used to organize other things on the Wiki as well. --PicklePower 23:14, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
: I have no problem installing this, but I'll be honest--I'm not really sure how we would use it. Could you give a breakdown example? - Scarred Sun 04:32, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
:: Sure. One way we could use it is to organize and display game hacks on a page. Some better categorization would need to be done on each hack, but once that is done, DPL can be used to pull template parameters from each page in a given category. A page could be made, for example, for all hacks of Sonic CD. This page could be automatically populated with a screenshot and author's name for each hack in the Sonic CD category (as defined in a specific template used on that page, Template:Hack in this case). So if the screenshot of a hack changes, or if a new hack altogether is added to the Sonic CD Hacks category, that page is updated automatically. DPL could also be used the same way to populate the thumbnails in Sonic_the_Hedgehog_(Archie_comics)#Cover Gallery or even in Template:ArchieComics as they are created in individual pages, so someone doesn't have to remember to go back and add a new thumbnail manually. --PicklePower 04:51, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for moving the comic pages. You actually didn't need to change the issue number used on the template, because that number is only used for display. The pages are ordered by their title, which was causing the problem. --PicklePower 18:41, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

So as far as organizing hacks goes, what do you think about classifying them according to these qualities? We shouldn't make these categories...we'd just be specifying these qualities in Template:Hack for each hack:
* Visual (pallete, art)
* Audio (music, sound effects)
* Level layout
* Basic engine changes (physics, spin dash)
* Advanced engine changes (new menus, characters, advanced moves)
Theres a whole lotta info about this version of sonic 2, which was recently dumped by drx not too long ago... you might wanna read about the proto here: http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2_(CENSOR_prototype)

P.S: Hopefully the file itself w/info gets submitted into the Sonic 2 beta page over at Sonic Retro soon! The info states that this prototype is the potentially missing "beta 3", which has some unique differences comparing to beta 4! Theres even news about the censor prototype here: https://hiddenpalace.org/News/What_Was_Once_Old_Is_New_Again

P.S #2: You can even look at the comparisons here: http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2_(CENSOR_prototype)/Comparisons

::::Thanks! I look forward using it. --PicklePower 05:24, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

* Visual (pallete, art)
* Audio (music, sound effects)
* Level layout
* Basic engine changes (physics, spin dash)
* Advanced engine changes (new menus, characters, advanced moves)
Sidebar links
Is it necessary for every link in the navigation sidebar to point to a category page? :Category:Sonic Community Hacking Guide, for example, is just a giant unorganized list of pages, whereas SCHG:Sonic Community Hacking Guide is pretty much the same list except organized properly and thus much easier to navigate. On the other hand, it's also the first link on the category page, so I dunno. --Shobiz 19:36, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

:::Everything should now be set up. Let's see whatcha got. ;) - Scarred Sun 05:17, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
::::Thanks! I look forward using it. --PicklePower 05:24, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

* Visual (pallete, art)
* Audio (music, sound effects)
* Level layout

* Visual (pallete, art)
* Audio (music, sound effects)
* Level layout
* Basic engine changes (physics, spin dash)
* Advanced engine changes (new menus, characters, advanced moves)
Welcome to The Sonic 2 Beta Wiki. This project is the updatable version of The Sonic 2 Beta Page, the site dedicated to the archival and research of prototype versions of SEGA's video game Sonic the Hedgehog 2 made for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. Much like a movie, a video game undergoes heavy "editing" before shipping, and significant amount of data is stripped due to time or space constraints. In the case of Sonic 2, several zones were completely cut from the final version. For years, questions have been asked regarding the staggering discrepancies between Sonic 2 and old magazine preview screenshots. Gamers could only dream of being able to play the lost levels first-hand ― until the binary image of Sonic 2 Beta surfaced on the Internet in late 1998...
What is Sonic 2 Beta?
:Sonic 2 Beta is an unfinished, prototype version of Sonic 2. Sega sent these out to magazine companies for preview before the final version was out.

What's the big deal about an unfinished prototype version?
:Some "lost" levels can be found in the beta version. Lost levels are zones that were originally planned to be included in the final release of Sonic 2, but were missing in the final version. The lost levels include a desert level, Wood Zone, Hidden Palace Zone and Genocide City Zone. Some existing zones have special features that are not available in the final version, such as the wooden balls in Oil Ocean Zone.

Why were some levels canned?
:Although there's a general "consensus" that time seemed to be the largest limiting factor into why levels were canned, the precise reasons behind many of the levels are still unknown, and are therefore open questions in the Sonic Retro community for further refinement.

:However, as alluded to earlier, general factors exist which prevented many of the levels from being playable. Time, although one of them, was not necessarily the only reason. Technical limitations at the time and even company politics could have played a large role in the cancellation of many levels. Regardless, detailed explanations for cancellations aren't known.
