Tree CrawlerMedia:SonicChaos GG US manual.pdf[1], known as Kamado MAX (カマドMAX) in the Japanese manualMedia:Sonic Chaos Game Gear JP Manual.pdf[2], is the fourth boss of Sonic Chaos, fought at the end of Mecha Green Hill Zone.

Strategy

The Tree Crawler is some kind of trunk-hugging construct seen crawling on a robotic palm tree. While shimmying up and down the palm, the machine spits out two different kinds of projectiles from a cannon hidden inside its back, the kind which is random. One of the projectiles is a blue flame that travels horizontally in a straight line, and the other is a spread-shot of three smaller projectiles.

If it climbs too high up the tree, it will slide down and slam the ground beneath it, instantly killing the player if they happen to be underneath it even if they have Rings. This only poses as a problem in the Game Gear version, as the Master System version has the tree base surrounded by spikes, therefore the player has no reason to stand there.

Not nearly as problematic as its Sleeping Egg predecessor, the boss can be defeated through the standard tactic of 'dodge the attacks and jump on its head'. The Master System makes the fight ridiculously easy, as jumping on its head in this version causes no knockback, therefore the player can simply jump on the center of its head once, make sure the character starts bouncing on it, put the controller down, and wait until the boss is destroyed.

After destroying it, the player moves on to Aqua Planet Zone.

Name origin

Its Japanese name derives from the Japanese word kamadome, meaning "Do not cut the trees".
