Sonic the Comic 015

From Sonic Retro

STC Template

The wiki entries for issues #1-14 follow a different template to issues #175-184. Which standard should we use going forward, for the sake of consistency? I've kind of split the difference a little with this one. Do we want to give each "other feature" (News Zone, Review Zone, etc.) its own sub-heading, or will a bullet point do? Should Review Zone scores be a special exception? Given the anthology nature of the series, is listing artists/writers in the info box worth it, or just redundant? --Pecky (talk) 17:48, 24 September 2019 (EDT)

It depends how Retro thinks these things should be documented
The goal will be to have actual scans of the comic at some point (good ones - not those chopped up versions that are floating around the internet). So do these wiki articles simply point to pages in a PDF, do they summarise the contents, or do they act as a full digital copy of all the text? I think it's probably a mixture of all three, but some of the content might be too small to write summaries.
It's worth keeping a note of the credits. I wouldn't want to say with confidence that a story spread across four issues will have exactly the same staff behind it. Also we'll probably want to turn it into something like Sega Retro, where the production history lists can be automatically generated. -Black Squirrel (talk) 12:38, 25 September 2019 (EDT)
I should have phrased the credits thing better. It's definitely good to have the credits for each strip in each issue within the article text. But is it worth duplicating that info in the corner infobox?
Currently, the wiki pages for #1-14 only have writer/artist credits in the corner box, which isn't much use because it doesn't convey who worked on what. The wiki pages for #175-184 have the credits in both the article text and the corner infobox (sans reprinted stories).
Is there any way to automate/cross-reference any of this information? So for example, after each issue's credits have been filled in, the "Nigel Kitching" wiki page could automatically pull a list of every issue he worked on? Or similarly, could the "Captain Plunder" page pull a list of every issue he appears in? --Pecky (talk) 16:28, 25 September 2019 (EDT)
Oh right - no this information shouldn't be in the infobox. I don't like the idea of crediting people as "pencils" if it says right there on the comic, "artist". This also applies to albums (and on Sega Retro too). A lot of these templates are old - many have subsequently been tested and re-written on Sega Retro, but have yet to be back-ported to Sonic Retro.
There will hopefully be ways to automate things - credits will probably be handled similarly to the creditstable template on Sega Retro. It all relies on a database back-end though and we don't have that for Sonic Retro (yet). We totally want one though -Black Squirrel (talk) 12:22, 26 September 2019 (EDT)
