Sonic the Hedgehog Ii Text Hak-o-matic Editing Application Device -- abbreviated S.H.I.T.H.E.A.D. -- is a DOS-based program created by Cyan Helkaraxe, for editing the text on the Sonic 2 level select menu. It was written at the request of Saxman following then newly discovered level select text data in the ROM.
A crippled build was created on December 18, 1999 and given to Saxman to try out. To register, Saxman was asked to sing "Listen to Your Heart" from Sonic Underground, but Saxman was uncomfortable singing it. As a result, a non-crippled version was never sent to him. The crippled version was eventually released to the public on May 6, 2001 with the promise to release the full version at some point. However, the full version never materialized, leaving only the crippled version available to be obtained.
The crippled version only allows Emerald Hill text to be modified. Upon saving, several other level names are replaced with a message telling the end-user to register.
The "Grave Software" logo shown when the program boots up is a parody of the "Grove Software" logo used in many of Saxman's early fan games.
