Sonic the Hedgehog Book is a Japanese-only publication, a tie in with the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It features Sonic the Hedgehog manga strips by Sango Morimoto, based upon concepts by Kenji Terada, as well as information on Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The stories depict the Sonic the Hedgehog manga cast in prehistoric and medieval settings, rather than their usual contemporary setting.
Two versions of this book exist, one of which was given away as a free gift with the January 1993 issue of Shogaku Ninensei. The front and back cover differ between the two versions, but the contents are identical.
Summary
The centerpiece of the book surrounds a fanciful retelling of Sonic's origin, done in prehistoric times. In this, Dr. Eggman is a caveman who has the ability to transform living things into stone, and with this power is able to terrorize the other inhabitants that live nearby. Eventually, Nicky is persuaded to try and stop him, and when things look their bleakest he is able to transform into Sonic the Hedgehog, and stop Eggman, both turning him into stone and winning the heart of Amy.
The final story in the collection places the cast of the Sonic manga in medieval times, where Nicky once again must turn into Sonic to stop Eggman and his magic.
