Sonic Dash Extreme is an updated version of the iOS/Android title Sonic Dash developed for arcades. Though based on Dash (and largely identical besides gameplay changes e.g. the addition of a ticket redemption mode), the game was primarily made by Sega Amusements Europe and Sega of China, with original developer Hardlight providing development support alongside Sega of Japan.
It released in Western territories only during September 2015,[1] but was first spotted (likely during location testing) in the UK in May of that year,[2] prior to being revealed by Sega in August.[3]

Gameplay
Sonic Dash Extreme plays very similarly to the mobile game it is based on, albeit with some differences in control and game structure. Rather than touching the screen, the player controls their character using a large D-Pad; pressing and will make the character move sideways, pressing makes the character jump, and pressing makes the character perform a Spin Attack. At the start of a game, the player's character is randomly selected out of the following nine characters: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Blaze, Silver, Rouge, and Cream.
Being adapted for arcades, the primary objective of Extreme is ticket redemption payouts, though a 'play for fun' mode omitting this aspect can also be selected by arcade operators. Tickets are awarded to the player when passing through checkpoints at the end of each section. After passing through the last checkpoint, the player is ranked based on the amount of tickets they have won and the number of Rings collected, followed by a boss battle against Dr. Eggman in his Egg Mobile. The battle is different from the smartphone version in that after being launched into the air by Springs, the player has to lock-on to and attack the Egg Mobile's missile launchers using the D-Pad. If the player fails to do so, they lose the game.
Daily and all-time high score leaderboards are additionally featured.
