Sonic Bowl was a small chain of Sonic the Hedgehog-themed ten-pin bowling alley that operated in three Sega amusement centers from the late 1990s: Sega World Tomakomai (opened early 1997), Okayama Joypolis (July 1997) and Sega Arena Toyohashi (July 1999). The bowling alleys were similar to Western-style "Cosmic Bowling" alleys, with electronic scorekeeping, lights, and music going while teams play. Pro shops selling bowling equipment and balls were available in both locations, as well as ping-pong tables, billiard tables and electronic dart boards. Costs ran ¥500-550 per game with a flat ¥300 shoe rental, with reduced rates for students; a billiards table cost ¥600 per hour, a ping-pong table ¥500 per 30 minutes and darts run ¥100 per game. The Toyohashi location hosted several bowling tournaments per year.
