Rising Sun
From Sonic Retro
Rising Sun is a fangame/fanfiction/comic project, lead by William Acorn. Several other people are contributing to the story with their own characters. The fanfiction part is a large storyline depicting the entire history of Mobius. The fangame part is centered around the last part of the storyline, Dawn. The cancelled comic strip is centered around the Invasion part of the storyline. The comic books follow the games in detil. Listing all in-depth info would be somewhat redundant because all of it's listed at the official site anyway, which is maintained by ThunderPX and William Acorn. However, I believe that a synopsis is in order.
Rising Sun covers a period of approximately seven thousand years, focusing on five chapters, or Conflicts. Each Conflict follows one or more central heroes, and several other characters essential to the storyline as (relatively) peripheral heroes. There are also sets of villains and various neutral cameos (a good example would be Himiko Hedgehog, who appears as a running joke in the Dawn chapter.
The whole things stems from a shift in venue of an ancient war between higher forces of good and evil, known as the Avatars (currently casting Blade Nightflame and Cylent Nite as Avatars of Good and Number 49 and Damien as Avatars of Evil). When their war threatens to rip the fabric of every level of reality into pieces, the Avatars go to the negotiating table, deciding to play out their war in the hearts and minds of the citizens of Mobius.

Chapters
The Chaos Mages
Chapter One of Rising Sun deals with the Conflict between the five heroes and five villains chosen by the avatars to start off their little war. It also covers the founding of the Acorn Kingdom.
Zero's War
Chapter Two introduces one of the most important characters in Rising Sun, the immortal Chaos warrior Zero Strife. It deals with his creation and the massive war that erupted not long afterwards, as well as many of the formative events that shaped him as a man...er, Mobian.
Invasion
Chapter Three deals with Kharana and the crew of the privateer ship Black Queen as they battle a generations-old secret society bent on conquering all of Mobius.
Twilight Legends
Chapter Four covers the setup for the final Conflict--many of the key pieces are set at this point, as well as some of the players. Zero Strife is brought back to the forefront as a rising tide of violence signals the end of an era of peace.
Dawn
Chapter Five covers the final deciding Conflict, and the conclusion of several story threads that have hung unfinished for centuries. William Acorn and a number of young men and women join with Zero Strife and one of the warriors from the previous Conflict to combat a series of progressively more powerful opponents in the war-torn present day. Featuring the longest by far continuous storyline as well as major appearances by Shadow and Amy Rose.
The whole project was begun first because William Acorn wanted to make a story for his roleplaying group, but evolved into a netwide cameofest that strives for the quality and magic that the official games have lost. There will be (at least) a trilogy of games covering the Dawn storyline, as well as a set of comic book series covering everything. The ultimate goal of this project is to take our advanced product to SEGA and get it produced. This is for the fans, by the fans. Enjoy.
