Joypad

From Sonic Retro

(Redirected from Controller)

A joypad (often called a control pad or controller) is a device designed as a joystick alternative for faster action games, which normally consists of a D-pad and at least two buttons, and is held in two hands (which is why the Wii controller is not a joypad). Joypads have also contained Analog Sticks, mini-joysticks with many different possible positions compared to a D-pad, for many years, and often POV controllers (similiar the GameCube C-Stick) and various sliders and other functions on PC joypads.

Most now come with vibrating parts which lets you feel the force of explosions and such. The Dreamcast controller was unique in that it could load in memory cards and other such devices, however the N64 did have a space for a rumble pak or memory card.
