Software piracy is usually defined as the illegal copying and selling of games/software. Pirate Megadrive games are frequently modified to remove copyright screens and corporate logos. Unlicensed games are often original titles which use established characters (such as Sonic or Mario) without permission, which is less overtly illegal than piracy but still a form of copyright infringement.
